Miasnikian
is situated in north-west Armavir, about 61 km from the capital city of Yerevan and 11 km from
Armavir regional center at an altitude of 900 m above sea level. The history of
present Miasnikian goes back to 1901 when, because of Tbilisi-Yerevan railway
station construction, Araks station was founded with only 5-6 families
available at the station. In 1954 the Miasnikian state farm was founded after
the reservoirs of Akhuryan and Talin had been built. Miasnikian was mainly
inhabited by the residents of neighboring Talin, Akuryan and Ani. Until 1964,
animal husbandry was the main occupation in the village. Since 1972, the
village has been receiving water from Akhuryan reservoir through Selaf Mastara
pipes, which promoted the rapid growth of agriculture in the community and
throughout the region. In 1983, based on the Government Decree regarding
formation of new administrative areas, Baghramyan region was founded with
Miasnikian as the region’s center. Although its official name is Miasnikian,
many villagers still call it Araks.
